Today Steinway Technical Director Kent Webb traveled to Oklahoma from the Steinway factory in New York to teach a class on voicing for the local technicians. He mainly focused on the different ways to create tone differences in the new Steinway hammer. I had seen several of the procedures before, but he also had a few new tricks! I am very glad I attended, seeing a few of them will speed up the process while also making a more consistent result. I also learned Steinway in the last six months has started offering a polyester finish. This is new for their factory, and I am interested in seeing the finished result. I will be returing to the Steinway factory in June, where I will be taking the extended, five day version of this course. I cannot wait!
