Sandra Coursey will receive her Bachelor’s of Music in Piano Performance at Oklahoma City University in May 2018, studying with Dr. Sergio Monteiro. She is a member of the honor Societies Phi Eta Sigma, Phi Kappa Phi, Pi Kappa Lambda, and Alpha Chi, as well as current Vice President of the Alpha Zeta chapter of Sigma Alpha Iota International Music Fraternity for women. As a member of the National Piano Guild, she received her International Diploma in 2014 while studying with her former teacher Margo Jones.

An avid competitor at many competitions, Sandra Coursey won the OCU Concerto Competition in 2015, 2016, and 2017, and the Oklahoma Community Orchestra’s Young Artist Competition in 2017. Sandra won first place at the Oklahoma Music Teachers Collegiate Piano Competition in 2014 and 2016. She performed at the OMTA State Convention in 2014 and 2015, and has been selected to perform at the 2017 State Convention.

With the OCU Symphony Orchestra, Sandra has performed the first movement of the Piano Concerto in G by Ravel under the direction of Dr. Eric Garcia, and the first movement of the Double Piano Concerto by Poulenc under the direction of Dr. Matthew Mailman. With the Oklahoma Community Orchestra, she has performed the first movement of the Concerto in D flat Major by Khachaturian under the direction of Dr. John Fletcher. Other solo performances include playing in a collaborative recital with notable pianist Dr. Lina Morita, and performing as a guest artist for the MacDowell Club of Allied Arts and the Oklahoma City Ladies’ Music Club, and performing in an Oklahoma City Philharmonic Guest Artist Masterclass led by renowned pianist Jon Nakamatsu.

A dedicated and enthusiastic teacher, Sandra Coursey is the founder of Songs for Seniors, a program which helps bring music to nursing homes across Oklahoma. She also maintains a private studio for students 5 years old to adult. An experienced accompanist with soloists and numerous ensembles, she currently performs with the OCU Wind Philharmonic and the Chapel Hill United Methodist Spirit Winds. Previous ensembles include the OCU Symphony Orchestra, the OCU Percussion Ensemble, and the Project 21 Composition Premieres Program.
